It all started with Eric singing a song “Mama” by BOYZ II MEN!

Alex who already knew the song heard him sing and was compelled to come in and help. He did and they sang the song together and it was good. They didn’t have to do voice training and all that it takes to sing, they just sung since they thought they knew how to sing and do everything!

From the inspiration of that song, Eric and Alex wrote one of the 1st song "Angel" this is a song that talks about the love “mama” has ever given to us. we loved the song. We could sing it on our BIRTHDAY parties, picnics and whenever we thought it was necessary. We went to the same school at O-Level where we became friends. In Eric’s class, there was a guy who at first was a real stranger but one thing that got them close was the song “mama”! “I was singing “mama” a song that put me together with Alex, this guy, Katende Moses who we now call “Kats”, started to sing along with me. He had a nice voice”

In Alex’s class was another guy called Stephen who was his friend, they connected and through their sharing and friendship, Alex didn’t shut up in class, he could do the singing most of his time. Stephen liked it and kept closer. Stephen had been part of a choir, which was actually made up of his family members. He really loved music! In Eric’s class was another guy called Gershom, who was a humble and quiet one. When we all got together as friends, we could sing a song like, “The Uganda National Anthem” and the flow of it all captured everyone’s attention, it was good. Eric, Gershom had by then already confessed Christ as their Lord and savior unlike Kats and Alex. Stephen attended a protestant church from a village where he stayed; he would do that every Sunday without missing. He finally realized it was high time for him to come to JESUS and he did. Eric was going to a different Church by then and Gershom at Kampala Baptist Church. Alex started going to the same church as well especially in the evening as youth from schools, could come around for games like; basketball, gymnasium; Tea time final part of the day, which we all believe encouraged Alex to always come back. But we thank God that through such, he gave his life to Christ.

We then looked around us and the only thing we had to do next was getting on to run the race for what we had already seen through music, as we had become part of it. Eric started meeting with us and being in one place. He started fellowshipping with the rest at the same church. We almost shared the same vision and testimony when we started opening up and having some time around together, we could laugh but at the end of the day, much of what we had shared brought us tears or having to thank God for our lives. We began to see things from another perspective besides being Friends.

We had allot in common. Some of us are orphans, like Eric, his parents passed away, we had to go to school and God is good we did it though with a lot of hardship that required real sacrifice. Alex at one point slept in the car-parking yard, he worked in the car washing bay, he did this all to earn a something to help him go to school but it was so small that in the end, he had to sweep the classrooms to be allowed to attend lessons and do the exams. Gershom struggled also in his own way and Kats faced his challenges especially with his family having come from a Muslim background, it was not easy for him and hasn’t been easy at any time as always. Stephen also had allot of challenges, he struggled for school and at the same time look around for how they would survive. He at one point had to do laundry for a neighbor and also go shopping for them in order to support himself in school.

Having shared and experienced all these almost similar challenges, we found out that we were really Friends and it ministered unto us that we should for sure be Friends indeed thus our group name. Through our sharing and coming together to fellowship as brothers, our vision widened and we looked at us as changers of the world, since we loved music, we started writing our own songs and small opportunities started to come in to allow us sing and minister. God was so faithful. We looked for a way to extend a mile for him, to know Him and make Him known. Much as the devil was at work God has always shown us victory in whatever challenges we have encountered. The more we came together; God opened our eyes and our vision. We started moving around and encouraging our fellow youth through the talent that God has given us. Wherever we have walked, we have seen God at work with us in people’s lives and our lives as well.
